"Marslab" is an artistic approach to the autonmous erection
of building structures by and of nanobots. The idea is to create tiny
robots that could use available resources of the environment on remote
locations (such as planets) to reproduce themselfs. Their allgorithmic
"gene-code" tells them when and how to reproduce and how to
connect to fellow "techno-parasites" to construct walls, ceilings
a.s.o.
Their ability to adapt (by means of spatial configuration) to different
environmental conditions such as gravity, temperature and cosmic radiance,
would create unpredictable mutations that still serve their main darwinistic
fitness-creteria "provide shelter for human beeings" (selection
is done by the their "firmware").

Several runs of the simulation on a big IRIX-box (which was needed basicaly because of the bad implementation ;-) ) produced a gallery of different "city-scapes" on different abitrary planets:
